The Day That Never Was
I got an email from Edward. The subject line is The Day That Never Was:
"On that day that never was, I watched as it began to rain. It cascaded down to the ground, the sky crying from the horrors it was forced to bring. The rain pierced the minds of all it could reach, toxic well water it had created now evaporated into clouds to infect the ones below. Toxic well water composed of the beautiful lie it whispered to all. Everyone was turned, slowly, as the rain melted their sense of self, and eventually their life. Nothing was left behind but empty shells, devoid of any humanity, ready to be puppeteered by the one anathema to nature.
Survivors locked their doors and boarded up their windows, desperate to escape the rain. The storm. But as the days passed, they heard a tapping at their windows. Incessant, endless tapping. It quickly drove them mad, as nothing they did could block it out. It didn't matter how deep into silence they dove; the tapping always wormed its way in. No way to quiet the deafening noise, people gave up. They opened the doors and walked into the rain, where they were welcomed into the cold arms of its storm. All fell in time. All but one.
The final survivor parted the clouds in the sky, revealing the answer to me. A deal was struck, and the sun was finally able to shine through.
Do you hear it tapping at your window?"
I emailed back, and as per usual I received an automatic response. This time, however, it's different:
"Upstaged Communications is aware of the continued difficulties surrounding Marionettes. We will focus on repairing it and installing necessary updates as soon as possible. All necessary changes for the futurrrr[/////] | Do you fear its storm"
Edward is repairing Marionettes. I'm waiting for it to be ready for what I must do next. I don't want to do it, but I know I have to. I can't let Riley or the others down.
