A Call You Can't Ignore
There was a major broadcasting company many years ago. Both local and regional stations were spread across the contintental US, growing to compete with broadcasting titans. Fitting, then, that it was called Upstaged Communications.
However, in 2010, the company closed. It was as if it had vanished off the face of the Earth, leaving hardly a trace behind. With it came its disappearance from the public consciousness, almost as sudden as its meteoric rise. People have forgotten about it, and there's scant interest from those you'd expect would have an interest in a company suddenly going belly-up. The only people I've seen talk about it in the years since it closed are the former employees in these chat logs.
My name is Penelope. I was a server technician for Marionettes, the central server network, and worked at Station 85. The past decade has been unkind to my memories, but I do remember that I found something concerning within the Marionettes databanks. Three days later, the company dissolved.
I moved on fast, unable to afford any time spent investigating what happened. In fact, I had all but forgotten about it until earlier this month. On the 20th, I received a call that informed me that a package had been delivered to my doorstep. It was heavily distorted and impossible to identify. I found the package when I returned home. It was an unmarked envelope.
Inside the envelope were two items: a remote access key to Marionettes, and my old login information on a post-it note. Since then, I have been spending my free time investigating what's been made available to me. A part of me feels concern over this entire situation, especially after seeing whatever happened with Lillian, but I have to figure out what's going on.
There are currently six people that have chat logs with other users. They are Riley, Lillian, Wyatt, Joshua, Nashiko, and Thomas. I'm sure there are more people of interest involved, but these are the ones I'm able to most immediately discover more about.
I'll continue combing through Marionettes as thoroughly as I can, and see if I can figure out why I was sent the package I received. I will get to the bottom of this. No matter what.
